Actually, any PDA works, but one reader swears by the Palm OS. Like the Filofax organizer above, the PDA has calendar, address book, to-do lists, documents/applications (Word & Excel, or others), clock (including alarm), calc, and more. It also syncs with work calendar. PDAs are also good for instant capture. A great address book software, cardfile, PIM, Rolodex and contact manager. This is a new category of post for me and one that I plan to continue to do if there is enough interest. About a year ago I began using a paper planner after discovering the planner community through Kristina from Pretty, Shiny, Sparkly.

I didn’t want to invest in an expensive binder right off the bat since I didn’t know if it was something I would continue to use. Instead I got this PlanAhead Organizer for $15.00 on Amazon. I’ve since learned it’s a dupe for a Franklin Covey Compact and I actually love it so much I’ve never upgraded!

It came with undated inserts and mine were going to run out in September. Sadly, that particular planner was discontinued and you can no longer buy refills for it. So I decided to design my own that were similar. They are super basic so that you can personalize them with washi tape and stickers however you’d like.

I prefer my layout to have a month on two pages, with week on two pages in between. Since there would be blank pages in between, I just created a simple lined and dotted sheet at the beginning and end of the month to scribble notes. Each set you print will be enough for an entire month.

These pages are 4.25″ x 6.75″ which is the correct size for a Franklin Covey Compact or the PlanAhead Planner I’m using. If you’re using a Filofax Personal you should be able to shrink the image to about 94% to get them the correct size. The file is set up so when you print 2 per page, back to back, they are in the right order. I’ve included screen shots of the print settings too.

I use Foxit Reader and I had to set my margins to a funny number. You just want to make sure the “zoom” is at 100% so they print the correct size (unless you need to shrink them to fit a Filofax personal, in which case set the zoom to approximately 94%).
